Hardshell clams are an important part of our bay’s ecosystem, have great economic value, very few natural predators, are more resistant to red tide than other shellfish, and can live for 30 years or longer! Sarasota Bay Watch has volunteers and their boats, restoration experience; scientific partners, expert advisors, and equipment. They are ready to go! Meanwhile, the scallop restoration program is still going strong! They have scallops in the Community Scallop Nursery at Mote ready to be placed in cages in the bay for natural spawning. Soon they will collect a new batch of adult brood stock to start the next cycle of scallop restoration. To maintain this vigorous level of restoration Sarasota Bay Watch needs funds to raise the clams and scallops that replenish natural populations in our local waters. Please, help us by supporting Scallopalooza, It’s Clamtastic!
