Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Department is celebrating its 15th Annual Goblin Gathering in conjunction with National Night Out at G.T. Bray Park. This year’s event will be held in conjunction with National Night Out, which is a program to strengthen neighborhood spirit and create police-community partnerships to make our community a safe place to live. Bring the family out and join in the costume contest, face painting, hayrides, and bounce houses. A $5 wristband is sold for children to participate in activities. Parental participation and trick-or-treating is free. Food vendors will have food for purchase. In addition to the above, several local businesses will be participating by passing out “treats & sweets” to participants, providing a safe alternative for children to trick-or-treat.

The Haunted Pavilion (Opens at 8:00pm) - If you make it to the end of the Haunted Trail, more horror awaits in the form of a Haunted House done by the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department. Hundreds of Venice area children (and some adults) are choosing their costumes to show off in the Annual Venice MainStreet/Venice Lions Halloween Parade, Tuesday October 31st, at 4pm in Centennial Park. The parade down Venice Avenue will begin promptly at 4:30pm led by “Old Betsy”, Venice’s very own antique fire truck. More than 500 children are expected to receive candy treats from the members of the Venice Lions Club, sponsors of the parade for 60 years. Following the brief parade, children will be free to Trick or Treat for more goodies at stores along Venice Ave.

Looking for something fun and safe this Halloween for your family? Trick-or-Treat at City Hall, presented by Suncoast Credit Union, will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hall, 4970 City Hall Blvd., on Friday, October 27, 2017. City Hall will close at 4 p.m., including the drive-thru window of North Port Utilities, to allow staff time to prepare for the festivities. This year, City Hall and the surrounding Campus will continue to offer a variety of activities, from a bounce house by Awaken Church to a pumpkin patch led by North Port Fire Rescue’s Benevolent Association. Information booths from local businesses and nonprofits will add to the festivities providing treats to attendees as they enter City Hall. The event is free for families. The City of North Port is asking residents to bring a canned good or nonperishable food item to donate to a local food pantry and kick off the annual holiday food drives. A collection truck will be parked outside of City Hall. Each year, the City hosts a People’s Choice Award for the best floor decorations. The employees take great pride in presenting this event, and the coveted Pumpkin Trophy proudly displays on the winning floor for the entire following year. This year, the City’s Information Technology Division is building a digital voting system to replace the paper ballots. Awaken Church has agreed to manage the voting area.
