Bayshore High School3

Bradenton, FL | Manatee County

I also graduated from Bayshore in 2009. The programs need to be restructured. I remember in my freshmen year, our English teacher gave up teaching our class because he couldn't control the class. Every day we came to class and used the laptops until dismissal. The only positive aspect to those 4 years were that I was able to attend MTI for junior and senior year. I use those skills today even after graduating from FSU. Yes, I had to work harder in college due to the poor teaching at Bayshore. However, with enough encouragement and determination, I graduated FSU magna cum laude. Choose Manatee or Lakewood Ranch HS!

Both my son's attend Bayshore, their JROTC program is fantastic, Student Government, Staff, Leadership, it is just above all!!! And with MTI, and FCC within walking distance, it makes it just that more of a add bonus.

I graduated in 2007 and I was in the top 5%. It's what you make of it. Pure laziness on the students part. Almost every single teacher I had was great. They did their job and more. I learned a lot. I got into a lot of colleges on both academic and athletic scholarships. You can't expect to do great if you don't put any effort into it.

I graduated in '06 from Bayshore. I moved from Georgia to Bradenton my senior year. I absolutely hated Bayshore High. I was doing math in Algebra 2 that was already taught to me in middle school here in GA. The teachers didn't act like they cared or wanted to be at work teaching their future leaders. Another problem is with the FL graduation test in general. I passed the first try and I honestly didn't understand why students had to keep retaking the test unless they were mentally insufficient. This just proves how sad the school systems in FL, and definately Bayshore, are.

I am a current BHS senior and I have attended Bayshore my entire high school career. For the most part, I have been gravely disappointed with the academics. I have Always taken all honors classes and starting my sophomore year, Advanced Placement. I have always taken the most advanced classes bayshore has offered. The problem is, they are not very advanced. I have never felt academically challenged and I feel that this is because Bayshore serves the lower-achieving students first. In an effort to help the intellectually impaired students (a sad majority) that attend Bayshore pass and graduate, classes have become pathetically easy. I recently sat in on an English 3 Honors class (consisting of juniors and seniors) and they are reading a book I read for my 7th grade (middle school!!) English! Honestly, an honors class doing 7th grade work?! Also, the vandalism and graffiti is pretty ridiculous.

I went to Bayshore for 9th grade and i only listened to what my Lang. Arts and Math teachers and screwed around in all my other classes. I hated Bayshore. I thought that they lacked in school spirt and that the teachers didnt do much. Later on i moved to North Port High School, and the only classes i was good at were Math and Lang. Arts. And not only was i good but i was better then most students and the teachers of those subjects were shocked by the skills i used to do my work. Those skills i learned at Bayshore. I now wish i would of listened in all my classes. Bayshore teachers are very good and will help you go far, aslong as the student is willing to work. As for Bayshores sports, they are getting better. And the arts there, someone is always getting a prize.

Having moved from a northern private school and attended Bayshore from 2003-2006, I can tell you my three years there were an experience. The lack of school spirit is a bit..depressing. Students as well as teachers have a limited amount of pride and I think that is only a minute part of the problem. Students seem to be completely content with mediocrity. There never seemed to be a drive to succeed and be the best at anything, and in my three years the students I encountered who actually cared were few. As a transfer student I chose Bayshore because when I walked through the door for an orientation I was greeted by many friendly smiles and introductions. I found the school to be very welcoming . However, the upcoming underclassmen were not this way. I would not recommend Bayshore for anyone wanting academic challenges. - BHS Alumni c/o 06

I'm a current student at Bayshore High school, and personally I find it a bit...disappointing. True, the teachers focus on FCAT related materials, buts that's because our FCAT grades are below average. In every english class I've had in this school so far (I've had two honors classes so far) often the students don't read the books, and the teachers just work around it. Kids skate by with minimal effort because honestly if teachers made the work any harder a lot of kids would fail. They have after school tutoring in subjects like math, but the few times I went there I didn't help, I got a word-for-word textbook lesson from the student helping me (the tutors are all students, usually from the Mu Alpha Theta group). Bayshore's got potential, it just needs a better handle on its students.

Bayshore is a great school. The Pre-College program is unique. Students appreciation of the school begins with parents supporting the teachers and encouraging them to succeed. They sure have that oportunity at Bayshore.

I'm a student at bayshore high and I love it. If you think the school is too big than go to a private school, at least they are giving a chance to everyone. Bayshore has many activitis and if you are not happy with it leave because you are probably just not smart enough to know the about the things that you are able to do at bayshore. Keep in mind that many other kids don't have half of the things you have at bayshore.

I am a student at Bayshore High School and I'm upset with some of the reviews that my school has received. Students say that the teachers focus too much on FCAT but it's because the students dont take it seriously. The grade for our school has changed and it's because of the students lack of caring. The teachers and adminastrators try to make Bayshore a good learning environtment and the students brush it off and goof around. Bayshore High School is a Grade A school in my book. If you are a parent looking to have your child attend Bayshore, I'd say 'go for it!'

This is going to be my second year at BHS and I really like it. You just have to be involved in the right things. You have to find the good things about the school and focus on those more than the negative. Last year I loved all my teachers and would even like to have them again. People just look at FCAT scores and not at some of the students. Not all of the students don't care about the scores. --BHS sophmore

I am not a parent but a recent graduate from Bayshore high. I had some really great experiences there and the teachers that I have had have always been helpful. Many of the teacher I have had still talk to me today and are willing to help now that I am in College. Bayshore does have problems but not as many as other schools. I would recommend sending any persons child to attend Bayshore.

Bayshore High School, is not that good of a school. Some of the teachers are rude and some of the teachers are nice. But for the last few months we've been in school all we learned was stuff that was going to help us pass the FCAT. As a Bayshore high student I would not recommend this school to any body. -B.H.S.
